A pitched roof that's been slated or tiled well should last decades and barely ask for attention. When it does start to let go — slipped slates, cracked tiles, a ridge that's coming loose — it's worth getting on top of quickly, before water finds its way into the timbers below.
We repair and re-roof pitched roofs across Leicester and the Midlands, on everything from Victorian terraces to modern estates, using BBA-approved materials and backing the work with an insurance-backed guarantee.
Slating and tiling
Whether it's a repair or a full re-roof, we work with natural slate, and concrete and clay tiles — matching what's already there where it matters, and advising honestly where a change makes sense.
Dry ridge and dry gable
On re-roofs we fit dry ridge and dry gable systems as standard. Instead of bedding ridge and verge tiles in mortar — which cracks, washes out and eventually lets tiles work loose — the tiles are mechanically fixed and ventilated. It's stronger, it lasts far longer, and it's why current building standards favour it.
What a re-roof involves
- Strip the old covering and check the condition of the timbers underneath.
- Lay a breathable tiling underlay so the roof space can dry out rather than trap moisture.
- Re-slate or re-tile, with the ridge and gable fixed dry.
- Leave you with the roof guaranteed, in writing.
We recently re-roofed a house whose old interlocking concrete tiles had had their day — new breathable felt, a dry ridge and dry gable system throughout, and a 20-year guarantee on the finished roof.
